Ever wondered what it would be like to try a Nordic race? You can give it a go at the Lander Valley Invitational Citizen’s Race.

Saturday February 5th

15 sec Interval Start

Beaver Creek Ski Trails

Description of Race:

Varsity Boys and Girls will race 10km, classic, 15 second interval start. JV Boys and Girls will race 5km, classic, 15 sec interval. The course will be groomed single track “best line” with double tracks where appropriate as snowpack and terrain allows. Open / Middle School athletes will race 4km Freestyle, 15 second interval start. Classic tracks will be set in such a way that they should not pose a danger to freestyle skiers. On downhill sections, the tracks will be to the side, or lifted, for safety. Please email Matt Herr at matt.herr@gmail.com to sign up.

Schedule of Events:

  • 9:00 AM: Course Open for Inspection - ALL Skiers, Spectators and Coaches MUST ski the direction of the race at all times. See the course map attached.

  • 9:50 AM: Course Closed & National Anthem

  • 10:00 AM Girls Varsity

  • Followed by Boys Varsity

  • Followed by Girls JV

  • Followed by Boys JV

  • Followed by Open Race; (Citizen / Middle School) 4km freestyle race

  • Followed by Novice .75km freestyle race

Location & Directions:

Beaver Creek Nordic Ski Area - Located south on Wyoming Highway 28 at milepost 51.5, where the highway crosses Beaver Creek. An experienced parking crew will direct buses for parking. Beaver Creek is a remote location with no shelter available to the public so be sure to dress/bring appropriate clothing! Please consider carpooling as there is limited parking available at the venue.

Parking:

ALL parking for the teams, spectators, and officials will be in the lot north of the highway at Beaver Creek. Buses are urged to turn on flashing lights as they come down the hill to the parking lot to increase other driver’s awareness to slow down also. An experienced parking crew will direct you to park.

Refreshments & Hospitality:

Race organizers will have water and hot drinks available for racers, but racers are advised to BRING YOUR OWN SNACKS! If we have enough volunteers, the Lander Middle School will offer a bake sale (baked goods, hot drinks,

cup-o-soups) in the stadium both days, so bring some money (cash only, please bring small bills and change) to help raise money for Middle School uniforms and equipment.

Racers, spectators and volunteers are advised to wear/ bring appropriate clothing. Beaver Creek is a remote location with no shelter available to the public.

Please check the official start list for exact start times. Start lists will be available on highplains.org prior to the race.

Weather:

The weather at Beaver Creek may be different from Lander. The closest weather sensors and webcam can be found here. The following website may provide helpful information: www.landernordic.org If there is a delay due to road conditions or cold weather, coaches will be contacted by cell phones to update them on the plans for the races.

Cell Service:

Cell phone service is unreliable at the Beaver Creek venue.

There are NO DOGS allowed at the Beaver Creek venue. Sorry, PLEASE leave Fido at home!
